Located in Southwest Germany, Vogelsang & Kuhn was a manufacturer as well as a supplier for another German manufacturer, Grebrüder Schwabenland.
"At the end of the 18th century, each of the brothers Wilhelm and Karl Schwabenland had their own small shop in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (southwest of Germany). Karl, originally a cook, gave up his profession for health reasons and founded the company “Karl Schwabenland” in 1896 in Bismarkstraße 83, Ludwigshafen, a shop for cooking equipment, professional linen, and chef’s knives.
The most notable element of Schwabenland pieces is the thick band around the rim and base. In special design, drawn from one piece, finely polished, extra heavy, double bottom, corner and edge reinforcement; inside finely tinned with Schwabenland’s permanent tinning. Furthermore, “Gebr. Schwabenland” was of the opinion that horizontal cast iron handles are ergonomically more advantageous than curved ones. However, customers could choose which handles the pans should be delivered with. The heart shaped handle plate (“Herzform”) was chosen to provide better support and thus more stability over the straight shape (“Gerada Form”)."
"However, Arndt and I found copper pans that resembled the distinctive heavy pans from “Gebr. Schwabenland” down to the last detail. They bear the stamp “Vogelsang & Kuhn, Karlsruhe”. So it was at least conceivable, if not obvious, to accept this company as the actual manufacturer of the copper pans and as a supplier for “Gebr. Schwabenland”."

Copper pans have a story to tell, and so do we!
SHOP STORY:
Our passion is cooking on copper! We provide professionals and enthusiasts with functional and beautiful copper pans and tools, many with historical significance. Our refurbished pans have been inspected, necessary repairs performed, and polished and re-tinned.
We focus on two types of copper cooking tools: HISTORIC and PROFESSIONAL:
HISTORIC copper pieces are made by well-known craftsmen and each have a story to tell. The pan you are purchasing may have been handled by a famous chef or used in a well-known restaurant, hotel or train kitchen. These exceptional pieces are a connection to the past. They are often stamped or engraved with the initials of chefs or names or restaurants.
PROFESSIONAL copper pieces shine in a restaurant or hotel kitchen. They are at least 2.5mm in thickness and are often 3mm or more.
OUR PROCESS:
We find pans from great manufacturers all over the world. We look for pans that are thick and heavy, are made by a true craftsman and have great aesthetic quality. Big copper hand-set rivets, well done repairs, finely detailed dovetails and stamps or engravings by owners and makers all help to make a pan great. We focus on quality, function and the history of a pan. Come shop our selection of amazing pans and join the story!
Some of the makers and distributors we look for and sell include: Elkington, E. Dehillerin, Mauviel, Gaillard, Legry, Duval, DH&M, Duparquet, Dougherty, Benham and Sons, Williams Sonoma, Barth, Lamalle, Cordon Bleu BIA, Lewis & Conger, Bramhall Deane (BD&CO) , Army & Navy (A&N), Jacquotot, La Ménagère, Jones Bros, J.Y.Watkins, Mores & Lucca, Michel LeJeune, LE GOURMET, The Design Store, Williams Sonoma, George Ott, V Olac, Peter Brux, Regniaud, Temple & Crook, and so many more. In addition, we are attracted to pans from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and other American cities.
On our refurbished pans we inspect, repair, clean and polish the copper to conserve their history. A skilled USA craftsman re-tins each pan using the hand wipe method.
Our pans preserve the living history of great chefs, restaurants and makers from around the world. Buying a pan from us also helps contribute to the environment. Re-use is a great way to honor the past and to respect the future. There may be small dings, scratches, scuff marks and other signs of their use in home and professional kitchens.
