According to Christpher Clarke Antiques:
https://campaignfurniture.com/artists/army-navy-csl
"The Army & Navy Store Co-Operative Society Limited, to give their full title, was set up in 1871 by a group of army and naval officers who had decided they were paying too much for their wine. If they clubbed together to buy wholesale, they could greatly reduce the price. If this could be done for wine, it could be done for most other things and indeed the A&N CSL went on to sell just about everything imaginable from food and drink to clothing, furniture, sporting goods, luggage and toys.
Membership was restricted to officers, non-commissioned officers and their families. Friends could join by introduction and officials from the civil service and clubs etc. could also join. Premises were opened at 105 Victoria Street and the Society quickly grew to be a very large concern with depots at important army bases and ports. With a large demand from members in India, a store was opened in Bombay in 1891, followed by Karachi in 1892 and Calcutta in 1901.
The Society also manufactured or commissioned a number of the items they sold. We also have a theory that the A&N CSL workshops may have supplied other retailers such as Harrods. Although many of the London campaign furniture makers were producing similar items of furniture, a number of pieces sold by Harrods bear a striking similarity to those marked A&N CSL. However, the Army & Navy Store tended to label their items whereas this was less of a concern for Harrods. Four digit reference numbers are often to be found stamped on pieces sold by both companies.
The speed and size of the Society's growth was remarkable but still they managed to keep an eye on quality and customer service. Their name changed in 1934 from the Army & Navy Co-Operative Society Ltd to The Army & Navy Stores Ltd. They were eventually taken over by The House of Frazer in 1981."

Copper pans have a story to tell, and so do we!
SHOP STORY:
Our passion is cooking on copper! We provide professionals and enthusiasts with functional and beautiful copper pans and tools, many with historical significance.
We focus on two types of copper cooking tools: HISTORIC and PROFESSIONAL:
HISTORIC copper pieces are made by well-known craftsmen and each have a story to tell. The pan you are purchasing may have been handled by a famous chef or used in a well-known restaurant, hotel or train kitchen. These exceptional pieces are a connection to the past. They are often stamped or engraved with the initials of chefs or names or restaurants.
PROFESSIONAL copper pieces shine in a restaurant or hotel kitchen. They are at least 2.5mm in thickness and are often 3mm or more.
OUR PROCESS:
We find pans from great manufacturers all over the world. We look for pans that are thick and heavy, are made by a true craftsman and have great aesthetic quality. Big copper hand-set rivets, well done repairs, finely detailed dovetails and stamps or engravings by owners and makers all help to make a pan great. We focus on quality, function and the history of a pan. Come shop our selection of amazing pans and join the story!
Some of the makers and distributors we look for and sell include: Elkington, E. Dehillerin, Mauviel, Gaillard, Legry, Duval, DH&M, Duparquet, Dougherty, Benham and Sons, Williams Sonoma, Barth, Lamalle, Cordon Bleu BIA, Lewis & Conger, Bramhall Deane (BD&CO) , Army & Navy (A&N), Jacquotot, La Ménagère, Jones Bros, J.Y.Watkins, Mores & Lucca, Michel LeJeune, LE GOURMET, The Design Store, Williams Sonoma, George Ott, V Olac, Peter Brux, Regniaud, Temple & Crook, and so many more. In addition, we are attracted to pans from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and other American cities.
On our refurbished pans we inspect, repair, clean and polish the copper to conserve their history.
Our pans preserve the living history of great chefs, restaurants and makers from around the world. Buying a pan from us also helps contribute to the environment. Re-use is a great way to honor the past and to respect the future. There may be small dings, scratches, scuff marks and other signs of their use in home and professional kitchens.
